For Dozer
Created by Rachel Willis
We should all get to say goodbye
Our dog Dozer was healthy, lively, and full of personality. On Nov 28th 2023, while I was on a business trip, my husband, Allen, called me saying Dozer had a ruptured tumor in his spleen and was bleeding internally. There was nothing that could be done, he had already lost too much blood and he wouldn't even make it long enough for me to get on plane to say goodbye and we shouldn't ask him to hold on that long.
Hence the campaign name... We should all get to say goodbye... to the dogs that have cuddled us when we are sad, waited outside our office each day to see us when we finish working, loved to go for rides in the car, and asked us to protect them when it was storming outside.
Dozer had an "h". There are hundreds of people with a similar shocking and devastating story who got no time to say goodbye to their beloved family members.
The Morris Animal Foundation has several studies focus on "h". One of which is a new study with Purdue University focused on earlier detection of these silent and deadly cancerous tumors. I hope one day they will find treatments and cures. Identifying this cancer sooner would give dogs in good health a better shot at taking advantage of a splenectomy surgery or other treatment. At the very least it would allow families to know their dog's situation and be able to say goodbye and thank their sweet pet for the years of loyalty, kindness and joy.
If you loved Dozer, know someone who has lost a dog to this terrible and sudden disease, or have a dog you love, consider donating to the Morris Animal Foundation to support this research.
Morris Animal Foundation is a nonprofit organization that funds science to advance the health of animals around the world. Since its founding in 1948, the Foundation has invested over $149 million in more than 2,940 studies that have led to significant breakthroughs in diagnostics, treatments and preventions to benefit animals worldwide. Please help me support advancing the health of animals everywhere by contributing to my fundraiser and sharing this page with your friends and family. Every dollar we raise will advance this great cause!
Ask how you can get involved, and together, we can make a difference in the lives of animals!
